SAP PP/DS (Production Planning / Detailed Scheduling)

is an advanced production planning and scheduling solution based on finite capacities and real resource constraints. The module helps you move from a ‘paper plan’ to an executable schedule that takes into account machine and labor availability, setup times, operation sequences, order priorities, and material constraints.

Thanks to SAP PP/DS, you can create a realistic production plan that defines what, where, and when should be manufactured. This helps minimize downtime and overtime, shorten lead times, and increase delivery reliability and production stability.

From analysis to a stable plan – how do we implement SAP PP/DS?
01.
Diagnosis and objectives

We quickly assess the current planning process (MRP, spreadsheets, APS, manual adjustments). We define business goals, KPIs, and scope: lines, products, warehouses, and key constraints.

02.
Planning model and master data

We organize the data that determines the quality of the plan: routings, resources, times, calendars, setup rules, BOMs, planning strategies, MRP parameters, and constraints.

03.
PP/DS configuration and scheduling rules

We configure finite‑capacity planning, priorities, sequencing strategies, resource allocation rules, time windows, and exception‑handling mechanisms.

04.
Integrations and end‑to‑end flows

We connect PP/DS with execution processes (production, procurement, warehouse, sales). We design the end‑to‑end flow: from demand and forecasting to order creation and execution confirmations.

05.
Simulations and tests “using real‑world scenarios”

We run planning on test data, execute E2E scenarios, and perform ‘what‑if’ simulations: resource breakdowns, urgent orders, material shortages, and priority changes.

06.
Training and go‑live

We train planners and production leads, prepare operational procedures, support the production go‑live with hypercare, and then move into iterative KPI optimization.

From chaos to control: tangible results with SAP PP/DS
icon
A realistic schedule instead of a “wishful plan”

The plan reflects real capacities and constraints. You get a schedule that is actually executable, not one that requires manual adjustments every few hours.

icon
Less downtime and better resource utilization

A better sequencing of orders (including an optimized approach to changeovers) reduces gaps in the schedule, improves OEE, and stabilizes workstation load.

icon
Higher delivery reliability (OTIF) and shorter lead time

Planning and scheduling at the operation level shortens lead time and reduces delays caused by resource conflicts.

icon
Faster response to changes

A breakdown, a material shortage, an urgent order — instead of rebuilding the plan manually in a spreadsheet, you update the schedule based on rules and priorities.

icon
Transparency and less “tribal knowledge”

The plan no longer depends on a single person. The rules live in the system, and planning decisions become measurable and repeatable.

icon
KPI‑driven planning

We support the KPIs that truly matter on the shop floor: OTIF, WIP, lead time, resource utilization, changeovers, and schedule stability.

PP/DS delivers the greatest value to companies that:
icon
Manufacture across multiple workstations or lines and face capacity constraints

You produce on multiple lines, and resource availability changes daily? You need a plan that realistically reflects these constraints.

icon
Struggle with delivery reliability and frequent priority changes

Orders are piling up, priorities shift at the last minute — without flexible planning, it’s hard to stay in control.

icon
Deal with costly changeovers or complex sequencing

Poor sequencing of orders leads to losses. A good schedule reduces downtime and simplifies transitions between batches.

icon
Want to reduce manual planning in spreadsheets and stop “firefighting” daily issues

Spreadsheets, phone calls, constant improvisation — instead of planning, you’re constantly reacting. It’s time for a system that does it for you.
